Orientation

Start with the words, not the promise.

“Peptide” sounds like one kind of treatment. It describes a broad group of substances. The care around it matters more than the word.

What a peptide is

Peptides are short strings of amino acids, which also form proteins. Insulin is one example of a peptide. That label by itself does not tell whether a product is legal or safe.

Three lanes that look alike online

  • Approved medicine. The FDA has reviewed one exact product for named uses.
  • Made-to-order medicine. A pharmacy prepares it for a need that a ready-made product may not meet.
  • Research-labelled chemical. A seller offers a substance outside normal medical care.

As of September 2026, the three lanes follow different laws and checks: an approved medicine has FDA review, a made-to-order medicine has pharmacy rules but no FDA review before sale, and a research-labelled chemical sits outside normal medical care.
