Verify the doctor

A public record

Check the person, not the badge.

Logos and polished profiles are easy to copy. A state licence record comes from the body that can act on the licence.

Use the state record

Get the doctor’s full name.

Ask whether the doctor is an MD (medical doctor) or DO (osteopathic doctor); some states list them on separate boards.

Open the medical board for the state where you will be.

Match the name and licence number.

Check whether the licence is current.

Read any public board action or pending charge.

What a clean record means

Each state has a medical board with public records about licences and disciplinary action.

A clean record means no public action appears there. It is not a rating of bedside manner or skill.
